LIPIMC holds living collections of filamentous fungi (mold), yeast, and bacteria having important taxonomical data and physiological characters of mediating bio-processes in food, health, pesticide, fertilizer, and bioremediation for improving the quality of human life.

The main objective of the culture collection is to faciltate ex-situ conservation of Indonesian microbial resources, to provide microbial resources for research, and aimed at optimizing its potential use for national and international interest, and as one of important infrastructure of national research system and biotechnology.
